Devs

Devs is a cerebral sci-fi thriller created by Alex Garland. The eight-episode miniseries mixes technology, philosophy, and mystery in a slow-burn story about determinism and free will.

It follows Lily Chan, a software engineer working at the powerful tech company Amaya. After her boyfriend Sergei Pavlov mysteriously dies on his first day in the company’s secretive “Devs” division, Lily begins investigating what the project really is. At the center is Amaya’s CEO Forest, played by Nick Offerman, whose motives are tied to a radical quantum computing experiment.

The show has a hypnotic aesthetic—minimalist sets, eerie music, and the iconic golden cube lab. It explores determinism, simulation theory, and whether the universe is fully predictable. Nick Offerman gives a surprisingly intense dramatic performance while the rest of the cast delivers great performances.

Unfortunately, is not a show for everyone. The slow pacing and the heavy dialogs might be too much for some viewers. It's a show that requires patience and attention to detail.

Personaly, I loved the show because I do like these slow paced heavy philosophical themed movies and TV shows. As a supporter of determinism the show gave me an alternative sight on the matter of determinism and simulation theory.
